These biographies look wonderful. It's especially interesting that people we know very little about were included like Theodora, Alcuin and Wenceslas. The illustrations are gorgeous and the inclusion of maps is always a plus. We're moving on to the Middle Ages after the New Year, so this book would be perfect.

I've just finished Wenceslas' story, and I am so impressed! What a wonderful writing style, and how beautifully woven the story and the historical facts are! I really enjoyed reading, and was engaged the whole time. The illustrations only add to the whole package. I'm certain my boys will love it as much or more.

What a great resource, Terri!

The illustrations are gorgeous. They have a calm look to them. I'm sure calmness during the Middle Ages was a treasure. Actually, calmness during any "age" is a treasure! Are the pictures done in pencil? Definitely a labor of love on the part of Darla Dixon. Perfect companion to the labor of love by you, Terri, and everything you put into Knowledge Quest.
I hope to win, we are just getting ready to move into the Middle Ages in our homeschooling. Plus, it might be a source of wonderful information for our annual reformation party!
Thank you!

I like reading about the lives of "ordinary people" Most books give detailed information about how the royalty, or wealthy or clergy lived. But if they even talk about how the vast majority lived, it is only a snippet like, "they farmed and were subject to the Baron's will." You rarely hear about their lives.

My children love for me to read them stories that make the history "come alive" and, of course, love to have a picture to go along with it. The sketched portraits are an awesome addition to the wonderfully selected writings.

Like mrs dani above, I'm always intrigued to hear about the 'ordinary people' of a time peoriod. Or at least someone I haven't heard about before - you know, those usually included in the stories. And I must complimnet you on the artwork. It's gorgeous.

We love to read about history in the context of living stories. It makes it so easy to remember both people and places. Now I will know what the song means when it is sung this Christmas about Good King Winceslas and so will my kids. The illustrations are wonderful. Thanks for your hard work.

I am particularly intrigued with the stories about Luther and Gutenberg. They truly have changed history. I remember seeing a film about Luther as a child and it is still fresh in my mind. Would love to give my boys a similar experience.

My son is studying the Middle Ages right now in History. I would absolutely love to expand on his curriculum with this to help him delve even further into historical people of that time. I am especially interested in reading about Johann Gutenberg. I lived in Germany for several years and got to see where Gutenberg printed the Bible. It would be really cool to be able to go through it all with him.

The appeal for us is that ordinary people can do extraordinary things. But in a day when history isn't always taught with accuracy that offers great appeal for our family. Gorgeous illustrations!

Terri,
What seems most interesting to me is the realness of the illustrations and the personalities behind them. When I think of the Middle Ages, it brings thoughts of darkness, hardship, and a roughness that when you look at the faces of those in the book, you want to get to know them. You want to know how and why they stood out in that period of time. I would treasure a copy of that book. Thank you and God bless you.

I just read the biography of Gutenberg. I love history and am trying to share that love with my grandson, whom I am raising and homeschooling. Stories like this one that introduce a historic person as a child helps children relate to them more meaningfully, I believe. The writing is clear and interesting without either talking down to a child or overwhelming him. We would love to add this book to our study of the Middle Ages.

Great story telling..held me attention completley and I could visualize all of her descriptions of the boy and the castle and all the characters. I love stories..it makes your mind travel to another time and another era. Definately would read all the books.

I have told many childrens stories
that I have written, and my grandchildren request them over and over,,and even my 40yr old children laugh over my imaginary creatures...,I have them made into a little book of my own,,they are stories of two young mice, an owl, who lives in the forrest and is always threatening to eat the young mice,an old bat with a long white bead living in a tunnel in the forrest,a mole who is alergic to daylite,a firefly who only can fly figure 8's because he has been locked in an old box for years in the tunnel,a beaver who entered a local tree cutting contest, a saccy old crow who just can't resist his kleptomaniac tendencies and many other creatures.

I really loved story of Good King Wenceslas. The bios of What Really Happened in the Middle Ages is a delightful read. Not only do the children enjoy the stories but they love looking at the pictures.

We've enjoyed all of your downloads, and the products wev've purchased to this date.

My children deny an interest in history, but demonstrate their fascination with it when doing hands-on activities. Curiou, isn't it? They're enthralled with the way people lived before us, but do not consider that history. Hmmmm.

So, lets see...the book looks interesting to me becuase of the content. We're studying Gutenberg at the moment. It's the right period in history for a tangent. The kids think it's fascinating how people lived in the middle ages. They'd like that about the book.

I think we'll like all of it. Hope we win.

Thank you for a delightful start to my morning as I read the story of Wenceslas. History just fails to include the heart of these people from the past, and I am grateful for folks like you who take the time to do the research to encourage and inspire the rest of us. I hope to past this on to my sons and grandchildren so they will grasp the heart of love and service from past generations. God wants a willing heart and anyone can be great in His kingdom when he serves the living Christ. Thanks for a well written story with beautiful illustrations. It will be a great ending to the Middle Ages study we just completed.
